Description
COLLECTORS! Ukigumo is a cultivar in the Acer Palmatum family of Japanese Maples. Also called “Floating cloud” it is a small tree but not a dwarf.- perhaps 8-10’ after many years. Smaller in container. I find it rather mysterious. The beautiful pale leaves don’t like the hottest sun yet need plenty to color well, so it makes a great companion for those fern and hosta that enjoy like conditions. One of the best variegants and simply in a class of it’s own regarding color. None are similar. In tones of green and white and sometimes overshadowed by pink. Generally the leaf appears as white with green flecks and dustings splattered throughout. The intensity and color of the variegation can change with each year. With weather and culture it may be almost white one year and more green another. I have one struggling in the sun near a cedar that has tiny almost entirely white leaves that burn off by late august. Yet another one in good conditions is wildly colored with normal size leaves. Fall can be an astonishing aray of pink and gold spots. Very remarkable clone and always a joy. Item for auction is a very well branched 4year old graft of this cultivar 30" tall. ALready a performer! Can tag and hold during extreme weather conditions. Will need immediate planting with provided instructions. Many more rare varieties of Japanese Maples coming so please keep an eye on my listings. We do offer combined shipping for multiple purchases.
