It is reliably small and shrubby, tolerant of drought and frost, and quite showy in flower. It is like a desert tree in miniature, with small stem hugging dark leaves, contorted branches, and white papery bark. 1.5" spherical flower clusters cover the bush with purple from early spring until the beginning of summer. This plant is rarely seen outside of botanical gardens, but deserves to be more widely grown for its distinctive ornamental look. In the garden, this makes a shrub 5'-6' tall and wide, and prefers a sunny exposure. It is unfussy about soil type and watering regime, and can do well with summer drought as well as regular summer watering. 'Pom-Pom Honey Myrtle' has a reported hardiness of at least 22ºF, probably 4 or 5 degrees lower, which should be proven as more people grow this plant.
