Description
THIS AUCTION IS FOR 20 YEALING PLANTS.  THEY WERE STARTED LAST YEAR AND ARE BETWEEN 12-16 INCHES HIGH, ALL HAVE GOOD SIZE LEAVES ON THEM AND HAVE MADE IT THROUGH ONE WINTER - SO ARE ESTABLISHED PLANTS.         ONE OF THE EASIEST AND FASTEST GROWING PLANTS EVER!!     These outstanding varieties produce huge, clear-colored flowers nonstop through summer and into fall. Lustrous dark green leaves remain attractive all season. Thrive in heat, humidity, drought and even poor soils. At 6-9 ft. tall, they make a wonderful flowering hedge or screen, or can be pruned to form beautiful small trees.   These are a great addition to any backyard!  They are quick growers and normally by the second have blooms and attract the Monarch butterfly.       Flowers do not have a fragrance. Fibrous root system. Prune to desired form in early spring up until mid-summer. Multi-stemmed wood shrub. Large, single flowers. Dark green leaves. The foliage does not show the yellowing in mid-summer that is typical of some hibiscus. Kept to 3-4 feet for a screen or hedge or pruned to make a small tree.     Zones: 4 - 9 (-20° F.)Height: 6-8 feetSpacing: 5-8 feet Depth: Place in a hole 2 times as wide and deep as the pot; plant top of rootball at soil surface.Sun/Shade: Full sun to partial shadeColor: AssortedFoliage: Loses leaves in the fallBlooms: Mid-summer to frost       USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map          Zone 2    -40 to -50   Zone 3   -30 to -40   Zone 4   -20 to -30   Zone 5  -10 to -20   Zone 6   0 to -10    Zone 7    10 to 0   Zone 8   20 to 10   Zone 9   30 to 20   Zone 10   40 to 30         In late summer, when few other shrubs are blooming, Rose of Sharon is still fully covered by lovely flowers. The only trouble you will have is choosing among its many colors and blossom varieties! This temperate zone version of the tropical hibiscus delights with its green summer foliage and single or double blossoms from mid to late summer to early fall. The single colored blossom on this tall and hardy shrub can add romance to your garden. The center is a color with a stamen and pistils standing in it, providing contrast in texture and color. The blossom is not fragrant but attracts, butterflies and hummingbirds!     Open, loose branches suit Rose of Sharon to formal and informal plantings. It can be a tall hedge to help provide privacy or highlighted as a tree or shrub, where it is a nice conversation piece and setting for garden parties. The plant is pest resistant and requires little maintanence once planted. Pruning in early spring of about one-third of the wood will enhance blossoming and growth.Show off in your neighborhood with this beauty of many colors!               As for pruning Rose of Sharon, remember when a shrub flowers in mid to late summer, it sets its flower buds on the current season's new growth. To encourage the shrub to produce more flower buds, prune the plant in late winter before it breaks dormancy. For those of you troubled by deer eating your landscape shrubs, they would actually be doing you a favor by gnawing the branches of this one. Now, growing this shrub does present a few challenges; over the years I have encountered many folks who, come early May, have declared their Rose of Sharon bush dead because there is no sign of greenery. Remember: Mother Nature often throws a curve to test our gardening patience, and the lateness of this shrub to break dormancy is a perfect example of her challenge to us. Because it blooms so late in the growing season, it figures it can take most of the spring off, so remain patient. It will eventually leaf out in its own time. Go ahead, fertilize as you would any of your other shrubs and then just wait.     Plant  as soon as possible after you receive your order.  Do not let the roots dry out.  Before planting you should soak the roots in water for a few hours.  Do not plant your plants too deep.  The top of the root system should be level with or slightly above the ground.     IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL - PLEASE DONT HESITATE TO ASK BEFORE AND AFTER PURCHASE.  I HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH THEM AND SELLING THEM FOR YEARS.
