Thought to have been extinct for millions of years this plant was found growing in a few isolated sites in China in the 1940s. The dawn redwood is a very hardy species growing in zones A3, 3-10, and 14-24. This redwood is very fast growing at 4 to 6 feet per year. The dawn redwood has not been in cultivation long enough to determine the maximum garden size. It is safe to say that this species can become a huge tree.
