Compost worms or Redworms as they are most commonly called multiply at an alarming rate. Breeding worms can lay two or three cocoons per week that will hatch in 21 days, with each cocoon hatching two or three worms that will mature in 60 to 90 days. A worm population eventually stabilizes at levels that can be supported by the food scraps added, and by the availability of room to move and breed. On my farm I breed composting worms for a living. Breeding worms are deposited in cells for egg laying for 3 weeks at a time and then removed. Aprox 10,000 worms are added per cell which produce a rich mixture that is sure to produce fantastic results in your own compost bin My 75g packs of compost should contain all you need to have a thriving worm colony within months.Simply sprinkle the contents into your compost heap and bury them about 3 inches below the surface to keep them warm. In about 90 days you will begin to see the results in the form of very small worms that begin to appear in your mixture . These worms will grow to about 3 inches maximum in length in about 18 months. Once a perfect balance has been reached in the heap then they will stop breeding until a selection are put into a new compost heap. Any questions please feel free to contact me.
