Your bid is for 1 package containing 5 giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) seedlings that are 9” to 14” tall. These seedlings are from our 2007 crop. They are 16 months old. The picture was taken on 7/30/08.    These seedlings are grown in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California near the ancient groves of giant sequoias. They are grown outdoors and conditioned to wind, heat, and cold. Sequoias have very tender feeder roots that are broken with the slightest touch. The plant depends on these fragile little roots for hydration and sustenance. Breaking these feeder roots harms the tree so I only ship them in the containers with roots and soil intact preserving the tender roots. The tree can be easily removed from the container without harming the roots and planted with the root ball intact.     Giant sequoias grow in all climate zones. Sequoias are not drought resistant. You must be prepared to water the trees to get them started and during times of drought thereafter.    I will include a detailed information sheet to help with the care and maintenance of the sequoias. I want them to do well in your landscape or bonsai garden.   We will be including 1 giant sequoia cone with the purchase of this item. As well as being an item of interest the cone may contain some viable seed. The bulk of the seed has already been expelled but some seed usually sticks and can be scraped from within the cone with a toothpick. Each cone was inspected and if no seed was visible I added a pinch of seed so that no one will get a cone without seed.    The sequoia seedlings are sometimes used as favors for guests at events.
